Senior Klangers at their last Spring Concert.

The Klipnocky Klangers is the youth (grades 7-12) handbell choir of First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, NY, and members of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (AGEHR).  Under the direction of John Jurgensen (one of the original Klangers), they perform at church services, concerts, and Area festivals.  On non-festival years the Klangers arrange concert tours.  We rehearse every Tuesday from 7:30-9:00 pm.

The original 3 octave set was made possible by a donation in 1973 from attorney and Mrs. Warren Farrington in honor of the Rev. Dr. Harold Buckingham, for whom our adult group is named after.  The fourth octave was donated in 1975, again by the Farringtons, and in 1978 the fifth octave was donated as well.

Additionally, we have the G2 bell and three octaves of Malmark hand chimes.  Our latest addition, purchased in August, 2007, includes the lower 6th octave of Malmark chimes (G2-B2) and C2 ("Big Ben").

As with all of our musical groups at FUMC, the Klangers is open to anyone in the community regardless of religious affiliation.

Currently we are working towards attending the Distinctly Teen portion of the International Handbell Symposium which will be held in Orlando, FL in August, 2008.

Our Other Handbell Choirs:

Asbury Ringers: Grades 3-6.  This group serves as our training and feeder group to the Klangers.  Typically ring up to Level 3 music.

Buckingham Ringers: Our adult group.  We rehearse every Wednesday morning for about 2 hours, allowing us time for some fellowship and food.  Don't let that fool you; this group has a very high level of musicality and are superb ringers!  They ring from level 4 on up.

Springbrook Ringers: Originally the Pathfinder Ringers, this group is now  comprised mainly of Springbrook residents and keeps us on our toes!  This fun group is currently under two directors, John Jurgensen and Chris Brashear, providing them much exercise.  Music is specifically arranged and composed for this group.  Please visit our friends over at Pathfinder Village.

(Un-named) Ensemble:  (NEW in 2007)  For our most experienced ringers who want a real challenge.  This group currently has 5 ringers and is limited to 6 ringers.

Klangers II:  Every once in a while we have more youth than we have spaces for in our Klangers.  Klangers II meets the needs of our overflow.

Hopefully to be added:

Wesley Chimers: Hand Chime choir for grades 1 & 2.

FAQ

Q: What's a Klipnocky?

A: You won't find much on GoogleÔ about this, but I assure you that we are not

related to the hairy women of Klipnocky! [Trust me, it's there!]

Q: I'm not a member of your church.  Can I or my child(ren) still join

     one of your bell choirs?

A: Yes.  All of our choirs are open to the community.

Q: Do you ever play for weddings or functions?

A: Yes.  In fact, we've played for outdoor weddings.

Q: Do you have a set fee to play for functions outside of the church or community?

A: We don't have a set fee, per se, but would greatly appreciate a donation

to cover the cost of travel and our services.

Q: What's a typical rehearsal like?

A: Hmmmm.  Go here to find out.
